Match Observations:
Justin Bradshaw seems to once again be getting the upper hand in his feud
against former world champion Sting. Speaking of Sting... doesn't it seem
like he has no real purpose in the WWF of today ?
Lightning didn't strike twice, as the Head Hunters made mincemeat of Kensuke
Sasaki and Jyushin Lyger this time around. They put up a valiant battle but
ended up losing nonetheless when Lyger was pinned after the Head Hunters'
powerslam/moonsault combo. However, even these vicious and determined Hunters
were unable to defeat the team of Cactus Jack and Sabu, which is quickly
rising to the very top of the federation again. Paul E. has to be extatic.
The Undertaker is serious about everything he does --- *DEAD* serious, as
Brian Pillman found out the hard way tonight. The Taker is determined to bring
the WWF World Title back to where it belongs - The Four Horsemen - and he
won't let anybody get in his way.
Talk about an execution ! Davey Boy Smith must have pretty much felt shot after
Toshiaki Kawada finished him off with a backdrop driver, an enzuilariato, an
enzuigiri and then the dreaded Stretch Plum. Owen Hart turned on Davey Boy
after the match and went on a tirade that this was the time he ever wrestled a
tag team match. From this point forward, Owen Hart will only wrestle singles !
It's bad enough when a legend of Davey's caliber is beating the way Kawada beat
him but to be humiliated like this by your own tag team partner truly is on a
totally different level.
Bret Hart and David Finlay put on a wrestling clinic tonight. There is no other
way to describe their match. The only question which remains is: could Finlay
have escaped the Sharpshooter or would it have been the end for him only a few
seconds after the time limit expired ? We'll be sure to find out soon, as Bret
and Finlay are scheduled to go at it in a two-out-of-three falls match soon !
Danny Davis may very well be in some hot water. Arn Anderson is meeting with
WWF officials today to get the decision reversed and return the IC title to
Dean Malenko. His reasoning is that Danny Davis had no right to give the match
some extra time because he also didn't give Hart and Finlay extra time when
their match went to the time limit.
As much as I hate to admit it, Anderson has a point there. The WWF brass is
expected to make an announcement in this matter in the near future.
OH MY GOD... IT'S THE DUDLEYS !!
Just when you think you had all the answers, he changes the questions. This
historic quote originally referred to Roddy Piper but Paul E. and Ted
DiBiase most certainly proved tonight that it applies to them just as well.
It was all a big ploy. Paul E. never really *did* plan on having his new team
challenge Michaels and Diesel for the tag titles... his goal was to prevent
them from winning them in the first place !
Where's the connection, you may ask ? Paul E. runs ECW. Cactus Jack and Sabu
used to work for ECW. The Dudleys are ECW mainstays. Steve Williams and Rick
Steiner both used to work for Paul E. in Philadelphia. Need any more clues ?
It's obvious they want to keep the titles in the family. Sabu and Cactus have
feuded with Williams and Steiner in the past but as long as either team holds
the titles, they stay in the hands of ECW. This is where the Dudleys fit into
the picture.
One thing can be said for sure: Michaels and Diesel are hotter than hot and
the Dudleys have their work cut out and then some.
The never-ending Flair-Anderson saga continues, and once again nothing was
settled. If this keeps up, WWF officials may very well have to put them in a
cage to settle the matter once and for all.
The King of the Ring was an indication, and now we know it for sure: Chris
Benoit is ready. Vader was close to putting Benoit away on two occasions with
the Vader Bomb and a moonsault. Actually, the moonsault would have likely been
it - if referee Earl Hebner hadn't been knocked out a few seconds earlier
after a mid-ring collision. As it was, Hebner made it there but a few seconds
late - andthat spelled the difference.
Benoit kicked out. Vader was frustrated by this obvious miscarriage of justice
and made a cardinal error: he attempted a Vader attack which Benoit ducked out
of the way of, took Vader down and made him submit to the Crippler Crossface.
